Under sunny skies and mild temps, the 2006 girl’s soccer season came to an end as the Connecticut Girls Soccer Coaches Association held its annual Senior Bowl games on Saturday, November 25 at Rocky Hill High School. In the first game, dubbed the Christmas Bowl, the Red and Green teams squared off. The Green team's Virginia Hyman of Bunnell High School opened the scoring barely 4 minutes into the game. No sooner had the score been put up, when the Red team’s Jessica Becker of Amity rifled a shot past the green’s goalie Morgan Delaney of Holy Cross. Becker put the Red team ahead less than 5 minutes later when she finished off a pass from Justine Monahan of Ellington High. The 2 teams then settled down to put on a display of crisp passing and excellent defense. With less than a minute to go in the first half, Green’s Courtney Wall of Guilford got in behind the defense and broke in all alone on red keeper, Kara Williams of St Joseph’s. Williams came out and made the save to keep the red up 2-1 at the half.
The second half started slowly, and then the red team erupted to take a 3 goal lead behind the goals of Christina Dias of Shelton, and Jenna Michaud of Bristol Central. The green team mounted numerous attacks into the red end, only to be turned away time and time again. Kelly McKeon of Holy Cross cut the lead to 2 with just over 13 minutes to go with an unassisted goal, but less than 5 minutes later Chloe Mckay of Suffield finished off a pass from Rachel Schuyler of Cheshire to close out the scoring. Samantha Schueschner of Brookfield was called upon to make only 4 save for the red in the 2nd half, while her counterpart, Chelsea Schumacher of Bethel made 9 saves for the green.
Jessica Becker from Amity and Kelly McKeon of Holy Cross were selected as their teams MVP’s.

The second game was played between the Black and Blue teams, the Bruise Bowl. The Blue team jumped out to an early lead when Shannon Pescatello of Wethersfield took a thru ball from Devon Bryn of Wilton and just 5 minutes into the game found the back of the net behind Black team goalie Hannah Pallein of Lyman Memorial. In the 20th minute, Sophia Vallone of Staples, found an opening in front of the Blue goal, but keeper Nikki Weiss of Immaculate dove to her right to make an acrobatic save and keep the blue in front. Erin Clark of Somers found the back of the net in the 39th minute on an assist from Paige Briglia of Watertown, and then again 2 minutes later Clark took the ball down the right side and deposited it into the net for her second tally of the afternoon.
The second half brought a renewed sense of energy for the black team, and less than 9 minutes in Lisa Viccione of Choate Rosemary Hall received a pass from Raeann Groves of Lyme-Old Lyme to put the black team on the scoreboard. Black continued to press the attack, and in the 72 minute, Vallone broke in on Brooke Lussier of Tourtellotte and pulled the black team within 1. Vallone then took a ball down the left sideline and spotted Kelley Donlan of Lewis Mills across the field streaking down the right side, and set her up with a perfect pass to knot the game up at 3. Katie Didio of Rockville turned away a late chance by the red team to keep the game tied.
Erin Clark of Somers and Sophia Vallone of Staples were named MVP’s.
